What’s it about?
A K-Pop girl band who also hunts demons (hence the title) has to battle for popularity/humanity against a boy band made up of demons and deal with the fact that one of their own is half demon, too.
Anyone I know in it?
Bruh, maybe if you know stuff about K-Pop bands and Korean dramas you’d recognize some of these names but the only one I knew was Ken Jeong, the funny little Asian guy from the Hangover movies.
So, is it any good?
I’m not a K-Pop fan at all, and I’m not really into animated movies, either. I only watched this because everyone seemed to be talking about it online so I figured I might as well give it a try and man, I’m glad I did cuz it’s pretty fucking good. The animation is really cool, kind of like the Into the Spiderverse movies and it has some fun, exaggerated moments that genuinely made me laugh, like the screencap up top. The story was a little basic and predictable, but it’s a kid’s movie so whatever. There was enough humor and cool fight scenes that I wasn’t bored. Oh, and the songs are certified bangers. Like I don’t usually listen to that type of music but I was absolutely bopping along to a couple of them. When it ended, my first thought was that I hope they do a sequel because I got so invested in it. Like, I have QUESTIONS. I NEED to know more about Rumi’s mom and how she ended up hooking up with a demon. That must’ve quite the scandal. Also, how did she even die? Did the other chicks kill her for boinking a baddie?? No one ever talks about it! Anyway, this movie knows what it is and doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s got the bright colors, animal friends and catchy songs to placate kids, but enough dumb jokes and visuals to keep mom and dad happy too.
Anything else like it?
I’ll try to avoid Disney movies here because everyone already knows they’re the king of animated musicals. If you’re looking for something with a similar art style, I’d go for the Spiderverse movies. If you want another music-based animated film, check out Kubo and the Two Strings. If you just wanna see goofy cartoon peeps kick some ass, maybe try Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: Mutant Mayhem.
